Novice to C – With Grandfather Rights
To apply for our Novice to Cat C course you must hold a CAT B (Car) licence
A CAT C vehicle is the most common type of HGV, allowing drivers to drive vehicles over 3.5t but under 32 tons. You might also know a CAT C vehicle by the name ‘rigid lorry’ this is because the trailer is attached to the cab and cannot come off.
Your course route does differ from other peoples, as you have Grandfather Rights. This means you passed your Cat B (car) test before 1997, and as a result you will need to complete the 35hours CPC.

A category C + E license is the most comprehensive HGV licence you can hold. With this licence, drivers can drive an articulated vehicle weighing over 32 tonnes.
Your course route does differ from other peoples, as you have Grandfather Rights. This means you passed your Cat B (car) test before 1997, and as a result you will need to complete your 35 hours CPC.

CAT C Upgrade to C+E – CPC not needed
To apply for our CAT C Upgrade to CAT C+E course. You must at present have a CAT C licence and intend to upgrade your licence to C+E.
A category C + E license is the most comprehensive HGV licence you can hold. With this licence, drivers can drive an articulated vehicle weighing over 32 tonnes.
Your course route does differ from other peoples, as your CPC is fully in date. This does mean overall you will need to complete more learning than others who’s CPC is expired.

CAT C Upgrade to C+E – Needs CPC
To apply for a CAT C Upgrade to CAT C+E course. You must at present have a CAT C licence and intend to upgrade your licence to C+E.
A category C + E license is the most comprehensive HGV licence you can hold. With this licence, drivers can drive an articulated vehicle weighing over 32 tonnes.
Your course route does differ from other peoples, as your CPC is either expired or you never had it to begin with. If you passed your CAT C test before 10th September 2009, you could do the 35hours CPC. If you passed your CAT C test after 10th September 2009, you must complete a MOD2 and MOD4 (unless you did it prior as a Novice which means you will now do 35HRS CPC).
