Driver CPC stands for Certificate of Professional Competence. It is a qualification that LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) and PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) drivers must hold in order to drive commercially in the UK and EU.
The primary goal of Driver CPC is to improve road safety and ensure that professional drivers remain competent, responsible, and knowledgeable throughout their careers. It’s not just about passing a test once—it’s about maintaining professional standards through ongoing training and assessment.
- If you passed your CAT B test in the UK before 1st January 1997 you will do 35hrs CPC periodic training.
If you passed your CAT B test after 1st January 1997 you must do a MOD2 CPC Case Studies theory test and a Module 4 practical test.
Who Needs Driver CPC Training?
If you want to drive a lorry, bus, or coach for hire or reward, you’ll need to complete the Driver CPC. The specific training path you take depends on when you passed your standard car driving test (Category B):
